Most projects don’t fail because of poor intent.
They fail because planning systems don’t reflect how work actually happens.
This session introduces the production control systems behind high-performing projects—Last Planner System (LPS), TAKT planning, and digital coordination tools like vPlanner.
Designed for senior leaders, this workshop explains why traditional planning approaches struggle in complex environments and what it takes to create reliable, coordinated workflow across teams.
This is not a scheduling course.
You will:
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how to move from static plans to dynamic production systems—improving workflow reliability, team alignment and overall project performance.
Note: This session requires a minimum of 5 participants to proceed. In the event the minimum is not met, the session may be rescheduled or cancelled. Participants will be notified in advance and offered a refund.
Jared Chesterman is the Co-Founder of ProgressAmp, where he designs practical operating systems that help complex delivery environments move together – in rhythm, with trust, and with purpose. He works at the intersection of delivery, design, and systems trust, helping multi-stakeholder project ecosystems build clarity, momentum, and sustainable, predictable progress.
Jared brings 25+ years of major infrastructure design and leadership experience across Australia and the UK, including senior roles with Arcadis (London and Australia) and Principal Project Manager responsibilities at SMEC on the Murray Basin Rail Alliance. His work spans Lean and Agile transformation, Lean Design and Target Value Design (TVD), stakeholder alignment, measurement systems, and rhythm-based workflows that improve reliability without forcing complex systems into artificial certainty.
He holds a Graduate Certificate in Change Management (Victoria University), is a PMP (PMI), and trained as a Lean Practitioner through the UK National Highways Programme. His current focus is how leaders and teams can manage complexity by building stronger sensemaking systems – starting with a clearer understanding of the value of ambiguity.

BIM isn’t a technology problem.
It’s a leadership, governance and decision-making challenge.
This session cuts through the noise around Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Engineering, giving senior leaders a practical understanding of what it actually takes to implement it successfully on real projects.
Delivered by Eric Bugeja, a global leader in digital delivery and Chair of buildingSMART Australasia, this course focuses on the decisions, behaviours and systems required to unlock value—while meeting increasingly complex contractual and information requirements.
This is not a technical deep dive.
You will:
You’ll leave with clarity on how to approach BIM as a strategic capability—enabling better decisions, reducing risk, and positioning your organisation to meet the future of infrastructure delivery.
Note: This session requires a minimum of 5 participants to proceed. In the event the minimum is not met, the session may be rescheduled or cancelled. Participants will be notified in advance and offered a refund.
Eric has over 30 years of experience in the Infrastructure delivery space. Starting his career in Manufacturing Automation before transitioning to Major Infrastructure Construction. He has managed teams within Tier 1 Engineering and Construction companies having practical experience as a Design Manager and Project Director.
Eric is currently a Director for buildingSMART International and the Chair of buildingSMART Australasia, who develop global (ISO) standards for the delivery of BIM. Eric is regularly invited to advise government on the transition to Digital Delivery and is regularly engaged as an Executive advisor in the Digital space. Eric has developed and delivered training programs to thousands of Engineers.

Projects don’t struggle because of a lack of options.
They struggle because decisions are unclear, inconsistent, or driven by cost rather than value.
This workshop introduces Choosing By Advantages (CBA), a structured decision-making method used in Lean project delivery. It provides a clear, transparent way to compare alternatives and align stakeholders around what matters most.
Participants will work through a real-world scenario, learning how to move from opinion-based decisions to a consistent, defensible process.
This is not a theoretical session.
You will:
You’ll leave with a practical method to make clearer, faster and more aligned decisions—reducing debate, improving transparency, and focusing teams on what truly drives value.
Note: This session requires a minimum of 5 participants to proceed. In the event the minimum is not met, the session may be rescheduled or cancelled. Participants will be notified in advance and offered a refund.
Phil Hendy is Co-Founder and Director of ProgressAmp, and a recognised leader in Lean construction, innovation and performance improvement across the infrastructure sector.
With over 25 years’ experience in senior engineering and project leadership roles, Phil has worked at the forefront of delivering complex infrastructure and building projects, consistently driving improvements in productivity, reliability and team performance. (progressamp.com)
Phil has trained and coached hundreds of contractors, clients and designers in Lean thinking, innovation and improvement methods, helping organisations move beyond traditional approaches and embed practical systems that improve how projects are planned, coordinated and delivered.
Through ProgressAmp and his role with Lean Construction ANZ, Phil has led the development of capability-building programs, innovation frameworks and collaborative delivery models that are now influencing how projects are delivered across the industry.
Known for his practical, no-nonsense approach, Phil focuses on turning ideas into action, helping teams achieve more predictable, productive and sustainable outcomes.
Trainer: Dr Cecilia Rocha
Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Duration: 3 hours (including break)

Course Fee: $80 – less $30 for FBIS delegates (normally $1,250)
Projects rarely fail because people aren’t working hard.
They fall behind because work is poorly coordinated, dependencies are misunderstood, and teams plan in isolation.
This session introduces core Lean Production concepts through two hands-on simulation games that reflect real project conditions. Participants will experience how workflow, trade dependencies and planning approaches directly impact delivery performance.
Rather than focusing on theory, this workshop allows participants to see and feel how different ways of planning lead to very different outcomes.
This is not a presentation.
Through the Parade of Trades and Pull Planning simulations, you will:
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how work actually flows on projects—and practical ways to improve planning, coordination and reliability in your own environment.
Note: This session requires a minimum of 2 participants to proceed. In the event the minimum is not met, the session may be rescheduled or cancelled. Participants will be notified in advance and offered a refund.
Cecilia is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, specialising in lean construction and process improvement. With over 15 years of experience across Australia, Brazil, and the UK, she brings a whole-of-lifecycle perspective spanning client, design, and construction, with particular expertise in managing interfaces between disciplines.
Her work focuses on translating state-of-the-art concepts from manufacturing into the construction context, bridging research and practice. This approach enables the application of proven principles in complex project environments while generating new insights that advance both industry practice and academic knowledge.
Cecilia designs and delivers research-informed serious games and simulations that enable participants to engage directly with lean concepts and test ideas in practice. She has trained hundreds of participants, creating powerful “aha” moments that challenge conventional practice and instil new ways of thinking to tackle industry challenges.

Are your site boards, BIM models or schedules being ignored?
This session explores why well-designed visual tools often fail to influence behaviour on projects. Rather than focusing on improving the tools themselves, it examines the relationship between the people creating and using them.
Based on the Japanese concept of Dare-Dare-Na-Na-Do (Who, Whom, Why, What, How), this workshop introduces a different way of thinking about Visual Management—one that recognises how meaning is shaped between sender and receiver.
Participants will work through real examples of “dead tools” and explore why they fail to engage the front line.
This is not a session about building better dashboards.
It’s about understanding why tools fail in the first place—and how to design for real-world use, not theoretical perfection.
Using the “Dare-Dare Game”, participants will:
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of why visual tools succeed or fail—and how to design them to support better communication, engagement and performance on your projects.
Note: This session requires a minimum of 5 participants to proceed. In the event the minimum is not met, the session may be rescheduled or cancelled. Participants will be notified in advance and offered a refund.
